The Amazing Power of The Right Brain
- Inspirations
The right brain was first introduced to the general public in 1981, when Professor Roger Sperry, of the California Institute of Technonolgy (along with David Hubel and Torsten Wiesel), received the Nobel Price in Medicine and Physiology for his research. In the past, right brain was thought to work in the manner as the left brain. However, scientists discover that the right brain has amazing functions. By developing the right brain, unlimited capabilities can be developed. In fact, underveloped human capabilities belong to the right brain.
The left brain is the three-dimensional physical brain, while the right brain functions at a higher, more spiritual level. So far, science has avoided studying invisible subjects. Because of this, the superior functions and amazing potential of the right brain has been left undiscovered.
Why didn’t we discover functions of the right brain sooner? This is due to the different functions of the right and the left brains. The parts of the brain have different information processing methods. The left brain processes information via language while the right brain processes information via images.
These two brains develop in a certain order. At first, the right brain is dominant. From about age three, when logical and linguistic thinking are starting to develop, dominance will shift from the right to the left brain. After the sixth birthday, a child’s thought process via sensory vision will lose its dominance and linguistic thinking processes take over.
But when these two parts work together, the brain can optimize its functions. However, human beings have traditionally used their left brain and left the right brain alone. Darold Treffert, Norman Geschwind and Albert Galaburda of Harvard University, anatomically researched the brain found thatpeople who were deemed geniuses use their left and right brains in a well-balanced way, while people of normal intelligence almost exclusively use their left brain.
Because the dominance of the right brain shift to the left brain in about age three, so parents must stimulate the right brain (also the left brain in the same time) during these golden period. And continue to stimulate until the age of six.
The goal is to activate right brain, and stimulating the left brain so when a child reach the age of six he/she can use both right and left brains in a well-balanced way.
